Travel in Taiwan (Pt 3)

The roads in Taiwan are beautifully built even in the outskirts of the city. They are well planned, organised and very clean. I was very amazed with the many fishing ponds and agricultural land just beside these roads. They were able to rear fish and grow their crops in such a beautiful manner. It was a wonderful site and not a sore eye as we travelled in the countryside of Taiwan.

It’s my hope that we too can learn and imitate their good ways of doing things in our country.

Travel in Taiwan (Pt 2)

Much self improvement and discipline can be learnt from Taiwan.

I was amazed with the cleanliness of the country. They keep their public toilets very clean (better than those washrooms where we need to pay here). Their night markets are also extremely clean. They have big immovable dustbins placed in the middle of the road. You do not find rubbish on the road. They are very disciplined in keeping the place clean.

Just to quote an example. My friend accidentally threw some rubbish into a basin containing utensils for washing. He was made to remove the rubbish and to throw them in the right basin/dustbin. They looked the same, hence, we could not differentiate which basin were meant for what purpose.

Travel in Taiwan (Pt 1)

I recently visited Taiwan on a tour for 7 days. Though I could only comprehend 50% of what was being said in Mandarin by the tour guide, the country is full of historical events. Being a small country with about the size of Malaysia, it has progressed much since its independence to be designated a developed nation. Because of its need to survive as a small country plaqued by earthquakes, it has built itself a strong military force, a hardworking and disciplined people who are constantly striving for survival and success. Much can be learnt from the nation of Taiwan.

Live A Life That Matters (Pt 4)

Just came back from holiday overseas.

Living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident. It’s not a matter of circumstance, but of choice.

Therefore, choose to live a life that matters.

When should this life be lived ? It has to be this minute, this day, for tomorrow may never come. It will be too late. At that moment, you wished you had done the things you wanted to do and also wished you had not done the things you had done.

What legacy do you want to leave behind for your loved ones, friends, people around you ? The recent demise of the Genting founder left behind a legacy of education.

Live A Life That Matters (Pt 3)

What will matter is not how many people you know, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone.

What will matter is not your memories, but the memories that live in those who loved you.

What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom, and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident.  It’s not a matter of circumstance, but a choice.

Live A Life That Matters (Pt 2)

What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built;

not what you got, but what you gave.

What will matter is not your success, but your significance.

What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught.

What will matter is every act  of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your competence, but your character.

Live a Life That Matters (Part 1)

Ready or not, someday it will all come to  an end.

There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days.

All the things you collected whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.

Your wealth, fame and worldly power, will shrivel to irrelevance.

It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.

Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will finally disappear.

So too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire.

The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.

It won’t matter where you came from, or what side of the tracks you lived, at the end.

It won’t matter whether you were beautiful or briliiant.

Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.

So what will matter ? How will the value of your days be measured ?
